The reason most people seeking outside investment fail is inexperience.
You have an idea, a company, and process that other people, your customers, find valuable but chances are you will not raise any money from angel investors or venture capital firms (VCs). I can dazzle you with statistics as to why you will fail, but I won’t. I will provide you with my experience so you don't have to fail.
Raising money is a long and hard task. It is perhaps the most demoralizing experience in an entrepreneur’s life. For the most part, this is because 99% of entrepreneurs are unprepared. Most likely, you know your business model and business plan inside out. Unfortunately, it is in your head. You know to your bones why what you are doing is worthy of outside investors, but you can not quantify it, chart it, and communicate that in the very specific way investors need to receive it.
I know what both angel investors and venture capital investors want to see: a working business model and business plan, and a team that makes it happen. Investors value customers and cash flow. Whether you monetize your website or sell vegetables, you are defining your value for the investor.
Your value and the value of your company equals your CASH FLOW. This is more true today than it has been in the past twenty-five years. Investors bet on the team because the team generates the cash flow. All of the investors oriented documents that I work with you on are designed to qualify and quantify your value to the investor. These documents describe in detail why you have the cash flow you have, why the cash flow will increase, and why the company will be able to continue to increase cash flow and eventually profitability over years. There are lots of little pieces that must be assembled, and it takes time and energy to do this. Investors need to see a powerful message backed up by facts. Investor also need to see this presented by an engaging and persuasive CEO who is passionate and well-versed.
The best investor package in the world will not raise money when stored on the hard drive. To be funded you need to be presenting in front of the right angel investors or key individuals in VC firms. Likely, you will do this many times. Successful fundraisers make scores of presentations in person, online, and over the phone. Follow me, and you must be ready of the VC due diligence process before you start seeking funds. Finally, you must be ready to close the deal.
