A kitchen garden is like the garden our great-grand parents had outside of the kitchen door ready for mom to step out and pick the vegetables for the meal she was making. It contained all the goodies that make a memorable meal: lettuce, onions, radishes, beans, carrots, cabbages, corn, and more. This year, you can share our kitchen garden through our CSA (community supported agriculture) program. It will be ready for you each week at our farm. Buying a CSA share will give you 20 weeks of locally grown produce. The weekly CSA bag will contain what is in season that week. It's hard to get anything fresher. On Saturdays we take our market cart to the Poulsbo Farmers Market and sell excess produce and distribute our Saturday CSA shares. While we plant so that our vegetables come in waves, we cannot guarantee that any particular item is ready on a particular day. FruitOur historic orchards produce several varieties of fruit, which is organic. We do not promise that we will have any, but if we have edible fruit, it is included in the share. Specialty ItemsMaxibel Stringless French Filet Beans ("haricots verts") are elegant, long, slender, and truly stringless green beans. They have a rich, sweet flavor that is perfect for gourmet or everyday dining. They are one of the eight true varieties of French Filet Beans, also known as "haricots verts." Because they are hard to grow, they are rare to find in a store. Cooking Tip: Maxibels require less cooking time because they are so thin and delicate, and should be substituted for any green bean. Nutritional Value: Green beans provide vitamin A, vitamin C, carbohydrates, calcium, dietary fiber, protein, iron and potassium. Other specialty items include sweet yellow corn, salad mixes, and baby carrots.
