Abundantly Green: 2009 Summer Share PickupYou will receive your first vegetables of the Summer Season the first week in June. That is just days away! Below are the dates of the first pick-up with times and places. There is a link to Google Maps where you will not only find a map, but you can get directions, too. If you have any questions, call us at 360-692-2504. We will check the voice mail frequently, so please leave us a message. Tuesday June 2 the pick-up at the farm starts at 1 p.m. and continues through Wednesday. Feel free to pick-up when it is convenient for you. Our farm is near Central Valley Road on Madison (see the map) at 1146 NE Madison Road, Poulsbo. We are in Central Kitsap. On Madison, we are in the valley. Look for our long driveway and big yellow house. Your share will be in the small yellow house with the green foundation called the “Cooler House.” Inside are commercial refrigerators in which you will find your brown grocery bag of vegetables. Wednesday June 3 the pick-up in Port Orchard at Green Gates Real Estate Service starts at 5:30 p.m. and continues to 7:30 p.m. The pick-up point is at 727 Prospect Street (see the map). Kathie Hickey will be there with our white panel truck with our logo. She will have your brown grocery bag of vegetables waiting for you. Saturday June 6 the pick-up at the Poulsbo Farmers Market starts at 9 a.m. and continues to the end of the market at 1 p.m. It is located at Poulsbo Village Medical/Dental Center, on the corner of 7th & Iverson (see the map). Kathie Hickey will be there with our white panel truck with our logo. She will have your brown grocery bag of vegetables waiting for you. Our spot at the farmers market is at the South end. We will have our bright yellow market cart, too. All of our pick-up locations are popular, so please be patient. It should only take you a few moments to pick-up your food. Keeping your produce fresh until you get it home and into the refrigerator can be fairly simple. We recommend that you get a cooler chest about the size of 1 large brown paper shopping bag for small shares and large enough for two for large shares. Vegetables need to be kept between about 42 degrees and 50 degrees, so using ice is not a good idea. We recommend that you use a 12 to 15 oz. plastic water or drink bottle filled 3/4 with water and frozen. One bottle can keep your veggies cool in a cooler for about an hour on a warm day. You will also receive our newsletter and recipes each week. Usually we provide information about one of the types of vegetables in your share. The recipes are simple, and fairly easy to prepare. Good food can be very easy. You can have someone else pick up your share. We do this on the honor system. They will need to ask for your share by your name. If you cannot pick up your share or you need to change the day please e-mail or call several days ahead of time. If you are going to be out of town for several weeks, have someone pick up your share. Shares that are not picked up in Poulsbo or Port Orchard will be returned to the farm. We will try to be as flexible. On behalf of everyone at Abundantly Green, Thank you for joining our CSA Family, Sincerely yours,
Marilyn Holt
